One of the first questions homeowners ask is, "How much will it cost to fix this drywall?" The honest answer is that it depends on the job. Every repair is different, which is why we give free estimates after seeing the damage. Here are the main factors that affect what a drywall repair costs in the Wichita area, so you know what to expect.
A nail hole or small ding can be filled and sanded quickly. A doorknob-sized hole usually needs a patch. Larger holes, or damage across several feet of wall, often mean cutting out a section and installing new drywall. The bigger the area, the more material, mudding coats and drying time are involved.
Ceiling repairs take more time than wall repairs. Working overhead is slower, and ceilings often need extra care to look right under lights. If the ceiling has popcorn texture, the repair may also raise the question of whether to remove the popcorn entirely.
Drywall that got wet from a roof leak, plumbing issue or overflowing appliance can sag, stain or crumble. If it stayed wet long enough, mold can grow behind the surface. In those cases, the damaged drywall usually needs to be torn out and replaced, not patched. Make sure the leak itself is fixed first, or the problem will come back.
Most Wichita homes have some kind of wall or ceiling texture. A repair that is smooth in the middle of a textured wall will stand out. Matching the existing texture takes skill and adds a step, but it is what makes a repair disappear.
Several small repairs in one visit are usually more efficient than calling someone out for each one separately. If you have a list of dings and cracks around the house, it makes sense to have them handled together.
New drywall mud must be primed and painted. Sometimes touching up a spot blends in. Often, especially with older or faded paint, the whole wall needs repainting so the repair does not show. Because we do both drywall and painting, we can finish the job in one project.
Furniture that needs to be moved, high ceilings over stairways and tight spaces all affect how long a repair takes. Clearing the area ahead of time helps.
